PCOS and infertility

If you have PCOS, it is likely that you have a hormonal imbalance that is impacting your fertility. Eggs may not develop as they should or an egg may not be released (anovulation). PCOS can also cause missed or irregular menstrual periods.

You are also likely to have excess androgens (male hormones) in your body, often due to insulin resistance and inflammation. This means that you may not get a surge of LH (Luteinizing Hormone) each month. LH is made in your pituitary gland and a surge of LH tells the ovaries to complete maturation of the egg and release it. Without the LH surge, you do not ovulate even though you may still have regular periods.

Excessive androgens (male hormones) in the body of PCOS women can lead to:

  • Poor quality eggs
  • Anovulation (No ovulation)
  • Irregular or absent periods
  • Hirsutism (unwanted hair)
  • Male pattern baldness
  • Acne

These symptoms can all be effectively treated with Inofolic® Alpha.

“It is important to
start Inofolic Alpha or AlphaPlus three months before trying to conceive or undertaking
fertility treatment and to remain on it during pregnancy.”
Dr Gillian Lockwood

The Inofolic Alpha range and trying to conceive

You can start taking Inofolic Alpha or AlphaPlus as soon as you decide to try for a baby, as this can help balance hormones and maintain menstrual health.

The egg that will be released at ovulation or harvested during an IVF cycle
started development at least three months before.

It takes approximately 3 months to develop an egg cell to maturity, so we would recommend that you take Inofolic Alpha or AlphaPlus for at least 3 months.

The Inofolic Alpha range during pregnancy

PCOS women who become pregnant are at an increased risk of developing:

  • Pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure)
  • Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and may have an abnormally large baby
  • Weight gain through pregnancy

Inofolic® Alpha and AlphaPlus can be safely taken throughout pregnancy and can reduce the risk of developing gestational diabetes.

The Inofolic Alpha range and Hyperandrogenism

If you are suffering from acne, hirsutism (excessive body hair) or other effects of hyperandrogenism, this is because women with PCOS often have high testosterone levels.

The myo-inositol in Inofolic Alpha and AlphaPlus can help to maintain balance in these hormones.
