Pregnancy & Preventing Gestational Diabetes
Inofolic Alpha reduces the risk of developing diabetes in pregnancy.
Pregnant PCOS sufferers are at an increased risk of developing diabetes, high blood pressure (pre-eclampsia) and may possibly have an abnormally large baby. Inofolic Alpha reduces the incidence of high blood pressure (pre-eclampsia) in pregnancy and has also been shown to reduce the overall maternal weight gain throughout pregnancy.
Inofolic Alpha can be safely taken throughout pregnancy.
Folic Acid is a water-soluble vitamin associated with the synthesis of DNA, RNA and proteins, and with cell division and chromosome repair. It helps the normal expansion of maternal tissues during pregnancy and helps prevent the increase in intrafollicular homocysteine, caused by a deficiency of folic acid, which results in the deterioration of oocyte (egg) quality. Scientific studies have also shown that a reduced intake of folic acid is often related to foetal growth defects and to the development of neural tube defects.
The folic acid present in Inofolic Alpha at the recommended dose of 2 sachets per day, meets the requirements for pregnant women and helps reduce the risk of neural tube defects, such as spina bifida, in the baby.
FAQs
Can I take Inofolic Alpha as well as folic acid?
The daily combined amount of two sachets of Inofolic Alpha is equal to 400 mcg folic acid. Folic acid is a water-soluble vitamin so ‘overdose’ is not a risk if you are taking an additional pre-pregnancy vitamin tablet that contains folic acid.
Many women take 800 mcg of folic acid per day: if you choose to take both Inofolic Alpha and Impryl you will receive this amount. Although safe, higher daily amounts than this should only be taken under medical supervision from your doctor. Some women are recommended to take higher doses such as if they have a raised BMI, a history of ‘neural tube’ defects, such as spina bifida in previous pregnancies, or are taking anti-epileptic medicines.
How can I avoid gestational diabetes?
Gestational diabetes, or diabetes in pregnancy, is twice as common in women with PCOS than in non-PCOS women. Taking Inofolic Alpha reduces the incidence of gestational diabetes. You can take Inofolic Alpha throughout pregnancy.
